INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing into the shocking  murder of slain couple, Nico and Marcia Lens, who were gunned down on their farm near Lüneberg on September 3.

According to Eugene Van Aswegen, Chairperson for the eDumbe branch of AfriForum, Mrs Lens was able to press the panic button at some stage during the attack, alerting neighbours of their distress.

Neighbours arrived to discover the lifeless body of Nico Lens in the yard near the stables, where he had been tending to general repairs, the pliers and equipment still in his gloved hands, a disheartening reminder of the unexpected and sudden nature of the heinous attack.

Van Aswegen adds that, according to one of the Lens’ neighbours, the victims of this senseless killing were on good terms with their workers and neighbouring farmers, a matter which Mr Lens had discussed with his neighbour only hours before the shocking incident took place.

Neighbours found the deceased Mrs Lens in the bedroom, according to reports.

It is not clear why this kindhearted couple were targeted, however, speculation is rife that the motive behind the brutal attack on Nico and Marcia Lens was robbery, specifically theft of firearms and money.

According to Constable Zwane at Groenvlei Police Station, officers are at the scene of the crime and investigations are ongoing.

Three suspects have been detained for questioning, regarding the shooting and two cases of murder have been opened.
