Suspected petrol thief to appear in court soon

The man who was arrested with 500 litres of petrol will appear in court again next week. His case was remanded to Friday, September 12.

The suspect was arrested after an anonymous tip led police to a location in Rangoon Road in the early hours of Thursday morning, August 21. It was alleged that a theft was in progress.

Vigilant Ladysmith police officers combed the area and sourced information that led them to a ‘suspicious’ premises in Bombay Road.

On searching the premises, they found 16 25-litre drums that were filled with petrol. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of another four 25-litre containers filled with petrol in the boot of an Opel Astra.

The 41-year-old suspect initially appeared in court on August 26, facing charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
