DHS’s Benjamin brothers cross the country…

Mrs Swart and eight learners decided it was time to test new waters, and what a great weekend of fishing was had!

Cross country
Nathaniel and Jonathan Benjamin took part in the KZN Cross County Championships in Amanzimtoti on August 24. Jonathan finished in the top ten in the U/17 age group with a time of 23 minutes, six seconds, (six kilometres). Nathaniel finished in the top 15 in his U/14 age group category with a time of 16 minutes 41 seconds (four kilometres).
Fishing at Mahawane Dam
Mrs Swart and eight learners decided it was time to test new waters, and what a great weekend of fishing was had! Although the weather was literally freezing, the learners landed 49 fish over the course of the weekend. Layers of clothing were worn and the campfires were kept burning high, but despite the cold the learners had a great time and fished very well. Congratulations to Shane van Wyk, who caught the most fish. R Kenchenten came second and D Lambert third. Congratulations to C Groenewald for catching two fish on one line and also hooking a fish on the second rod, all at the same time – a fishing hattrick! DHS would like to thank A Laloo for the great meal provided, and a big thank-you is also extended to the parents for their support and Mr Kenchenten for driving the bus. Next Saturday DHS will be fishing at Ridge Gate in the school league. DHS wishes all the best to those participating: fish well!
Ingudlane Challenge
Saturday morning was cold and windy, yet that did not deter the excited DHS participants who looked forward to a heated day of biking and trail runs. There were a number of DHS learner and staff entries, for both the MTB trail and the 10km trail run and fun walk. Well done to all who completed their event.
Congratulations to the following learners: Christiaan van Dyk (third in the 40km MTB race and first junior overall); Kobus Muller (third in the 20km MTB race); Mareli Maré (second female in the 20km MTB event); Nathan Padayachee (first junior male in the 10km trail run); Brandon Grondein (third in the junior category).
Thank you to all who made the day possible and for an enjoyable event. DHS multisport learners are looking forward to the Impati Mountain Race on September 13.
Soccer
Last week Dundee High played two soccer legs versus Ladysmith and Vryheid. On Wednesday August 27 Vryheid High travelled to Dundee with a Girls’ team, a junior Boys’ team and a senior Boys’ team. The first two matches of the girls and junior boys were drawn until the end of normal time, whereby a penalty shootout was held to determine the victor. The girls won their shootout and the boys unfortunately lost. In the first team match, Vryheid was 2-0 up at half-time, but Dundee valiantly fought back and equalized with a score of 2-2. The junior and senior teams played against Ladysmith on Thursday, August 28. The first team boys once again proved that soccer is a game of two halves, and fought back after trailing by two goals to one, and eventually went on to win 3 goals to 2.
