Police and Public Safety clamp down on crime

The group conducted a roadblock, which saw 124 vehicles being searched

A police operation comprised mainly of women was held on Friday, August 29, aimed at addressing firearm, drug and liquor-related crimes.

It was also an opportunity for police women to show their mettle during Women’s Month.

The operation saw police personnel from the Ladysmith Dog Unit (K9), Ladysmith Crime Intelligence, Elandslaagte SAPS, Bergville SAPS and Ladysmith SAPS working together with Public Safety. The group conducted a roadblock, which saw 124 vehicles being searched.

Police then conducted crime prevention activities in the CBD and the following successes were achieved: one arrest for driving while under the influence of liquor, one arrest for assault, one arrest for drunkenness, one arrest for reckless and negligent driving, one arrest for theft, and four traffic warrants were executed.

47 parcels of dagga were seized after they were found abandoned.
