Confusion reigns supreme over water cuts

Richard Marais of SACCWN and the Newcastle Advertiser have been inundated with questions regarding the water cuts.

Residents of Newcastle are in a state of panic after a statement was released by the communications department of the municipality regarding water cuts scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Currently, there are numerous different reports surfacing from within the municipality, every one of them giving times that are conflicting.

What can be confirmed at this stage is that the water will be cut off from 8am tomorrow morning. It is unknown at what exact time residents will be without water, or if the water will be cut off completely.

At this stage the Newcastle Advertiser can only report what the municipal notice said, and urge all residents to take necessary precautions, in case of a lengthy cut off.

The following Newcastle East areas will be affected by the water cuts:

Blaauwbosch, Madadeni, oSizweni, Dicks Halt, Mndozo, Soul City and Manzana.

The following Newcastle west areas will be affected:

Amiel Park, Aviary Hill, Arbor Park, Barry Hertzog Park, Fairly, Fernwood, Indian Village, Lennoxton, Ncandu Park, Hutten Heights, Paradise,
Hilldrop, Surayaville, Pioneer Park, Buffalo Flats, the Industrial Area and Newcastle CBD.

The communications department of the municipality is working on a statement that will confirm the exact times.

Journalists will continue to attempt to shed light on confusion.  In the mean time, residents are urged to contact the Water Services Call Centre on 0860 144 144 for more information.
