Dumping and raw sewage in Colenso

According to him, illegal dumping takes place in many parts of Colenso

Franse Malan is fed up with the living conditions in Colenso. Mr Malan has been a resident of Colenso for many years and is tired of the illegal dumping and raw sewage everywhere.

According to him, illegal dumping takes place in many parts of Colenso.

He has also seen raw sewage running down streams and roads, which poses a serious health hazard. “There are roads that are not tarred or have huge potholes,” he says.
Mr Malan claims he has phoned Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality and uThukela District Municipality on many occasions, but nothing has been done.

He adds that the graveyard, which belongs to the municipality, is in an appalling state. No one cleans the site, showing that there is no respect for the dead.  “I am so sick and tired of all this.

“We can’t even take an afternoon walk anywhere because there is illegal dumping in so many areas in our town, and the stench is getting worse by the day.
“And we can’t drive in the dark because our roads are so bad.”

At the time of going to press, neither uThukela nor Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality had commented on the situation.
