Livestock owners are warned

A herd of cows was observed crossing Allen Street last Monday morning, August 18.

Undisturbed by traffic, the cows peacefully made their way to graze in the open piece of land in the area.

Livestock were also spotted wandering in Boundary Road.

Regulation 313 (1) of the National Road Traffic Act 1996 (Act 93 of 1996) stipulated no person could leave or allow any bovine animal, horse, ass, mule, sheep, goat, pig or ostrich to be on any section of a public road, and no person could leave such animals in a place from where it may stray onto such section of a public road.

Mr Anandhaw added traffic and police officers could take charge of any such animal on a public road which included impounding it.

“The respective owners are consequently fined R500 per animal plus the pound fees and any cost relating to the transport thereof,” said Mr Anandhaw.
