Local businessman sets the bar

VRYHEID Community Policing Forum has actively been a force to be reckoned with in recent months.
According to statistics, crime in the residential areas of Vryheid has dropped significantly since the group’s inception earlier this year. These brave men and women patrol the streets at night, sometimes putting their lives on the line for the safety of our community. All this is done at their own expense. However, as people become more aware of the positive effect the CPF has had thus far, sponsorships and donations are slowly starting to come in. But more needs to be done. 
With this in mind, local pub owner and family man, Michael Phytides, has devised a challenge to get businesses involved in supporting this exceedingly necessary organisation, by donating R1 000-00 on behalf of Ella Mera to get the ball rolling, so to speak. 
Mr Phytides challenges other businesses and companies to follow his lead by, either matching or bettering his generous contribution. 
The Vryheid Community Policing Forum has hosted several fundraisers over the past few months, and public support has been good. But what price can one put on safety and security? 
Lizette Vorster, who has been instrumental in fundraising for the CPF, urges the community, especially those who enjoy a round of golf, to please bear in mind that the CPF Golf Day will take place on August 30 at the Golf Club.
