A mother from Mondlo says she and her children are now living in constant fear since robbers broke into their home and tortured them last month.
Schoolteacher Thembi Zwane-Mthembu and her daughters aged six and 22 years were tied up by armed men in their home in Mondlo on the Friday of July 28.
The suspects who demanded money from Zwane-Mthembu burnt with a hot iron on her legs before they stuffed her into the boot of her car and drove off with her to an ATM.
The men eventually abandoned the car and the 49-year old managed to get out and seek help.
Zwane-Mthembu has been treated for severe burns with doctors having to use four surgical staples to close one of her wounds.
She says her 6-year-old daughter has missed days of school as she is severely traumatised.
“I’m still unable to sit, I lie on my back and stand most of the time. Yesterday I phoned the police because I heard two gun shots near my house.”

“I’m here with my children and the six-year old needs counselling because she wakes up in the middle of the night worried if the doors are locked and scared that the criminals will come back again,”she said.
