Halalisani the new face to poetry

Halalisani began writing poetry at the tender age of 16 in 2004 and began exploring the world of poetry professionally in 2007.

Halalisani Shoba is taking the world of poetry to new heights with one verse at a time. Halalisani began writing poetry at the tender age of 16 in 2004 and began exploring the world of poetry professionally in 2007.

His first poem “We’ve come a long way and we’ve got a long way to go”, a poem highlighting;the struggles South Africans faced during apartheid and their celebrations of freedom after apartheid-wowed audiences and earned him a merit certificate at a competition held at DNC Combined School.

This was a competition that aimed at boosting literature at schools, for Halalisani it did way more than that, it awoke a new found passion for poetry within him. After school the burning need to pursue poetry overwhelmed him and he joined a poetry group. After numerous poetry sessions  and a lot of planning, Hlalalisani finally compiled his very own mix tape, Imbongi Yamawelase. A mix tape with unique African flavour with the likes of track such as Ungomfanekiso Womphefumulo which means the resemblance of the soul is sure to have audiences hooked.

“My mix tape gives people a taste of what I have in store for them”, he added with a chuckle. When asked future plans, Halalisani said , “I would like to launch my very own production company that aims to equip and give back to my community by helping them to fund talent.”

He also offers his assistance to budding new poets and can be reached on the following numbers: 079 170 3821 or 078 755 9817 and emailed on: imbongiyamawelase@gmail.com or lekam.lekam@yahoo.com
