Majuba Stars show growth and potential at sports day.

Paradise Sports Grounds were the battleground for these athletes, participating in seven different sports codes, namely basketball, netball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, karate and chess.

Majuba Stars impressed many scouts this weekend when the Amajuba FET College hosted just over 1 700 students from FET colleges from around the province.

Paradise Sports Grounds were the battleground for these athletes, participating in seven different sports codes, namely basketball, netball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, karate and chess.

Unsurprisingly, soccer was the most highly anticipated event, and the matches themselves proved to be real thrillers.

In the quarter-final match, Majuba Stars trumped their opponents two-nil to take the win.

Coach, Phakamani Zulu was extremely impressed with the consistency of his side. He said he had seen changes throughout the tournament, and had come up with a formidable A-side.

Majuba Stars striker, Philani Khumalo had impressed greatly, showing great composure in front of goal.

The team’s performance as a unit was exceptional to say the least, showing nimble movement of the ball with excellent passing, and the ability to find the chinks in the armour of their opponents.

According to the Assistant Director of Student Support Services, Thandekile Dlamini, the college had done its best to ensure the best exposure for the athletes.

Chairperson of the Provincial Sports Committee of FET Colleges, David Biyela, said since sports had become such an integral part of college life, events such as these were a must.

“There is so much talent that we find in the colleges! Scouts from some of the biggest football clubs in SA attend our events, and many of the players go on to represent South Africa at an international level.”

He commended the organisers and managers of the tournament for their efficient and successful conduct.
