A schoolyard scuffle at Dannhauser Secondary turned into a war of words between a parent and a member of the School Governing Body (SGB) following an altercation between two pupils on August 5.

The parent of one of the learners alleges that her son slapped another female student after she pushed him. According to the mother, ‘the parents of the girl came to school and assaulted my son’. The matter was then resolved between the parents.

However, the following morning the male learner was allegedly issued a letter of suspension by a member of the SGB. The parent was enraged that the suspension was issued, as she felt it had not been done according to protocol. A representative from the SGB was contacted and confirmed that the suspension had been issued as per protocol and legally.

He also explained how members of the Governing Body are responsible for lending a hand in the discipline of learners within the school. He added that this was ‘not the first time this learner stepped out of line’. Principal KG Nair said that the matter has been resolved and the student is back at school.
