Drive a new car for R699 a month – bargain or bust?

Consumers who bought into this deal are now faced with possible financial ruin.

Online complaint forums have been abuzz with accusations made against Drive Car Sales that have since received less than impressive response.

For many South African the Drive Car Sales company has been a lifesaver, but is it really as simple as “drive a new car for R699 a month?”

The ‘earn while you own’ option requires the driver to travel at least 500km per month to earn R570. Driver’s can receive up to R3 000 if a vehicle is sold from the unique code on the vehicle’s back window.

The ‘earn as you drive’ option allows drivers to be compensated on a sliding scale depending on the kilometres they drive each month. The advertising fee is calculated as a percentage of the repayment amount of the car.

Drive Car Sales drivers have since found their contracts have been changed from option two to one, without the consent of the parties to the contract. Once complaints have been made, drivers receive nothing but a cut-and-paste response, diminishing the driver’s chance of a resolution, to next to nothing.

For many, the deal was a viable option towards being able to afford a new car. Now, the deal seems more likely to lead to bankruptcy.
