Local artist and screen printer, Michele Hamman, paid a working visit to the textile printing factory run by German volunteers and local women at Rorke’s Drift.
The Rorke’s Drift operation had been in operation for several years now, and Rorke’s Drift’s textiles is well-known in artistic circles, and has featured on television magazine programmes like Pasella.
The ladies at Rorke’s Drift screen print designs on rolls of textile, for the local market, as well as on request from different production houses across the country, which then use it in the manufacturing of several products.
Rorke’s Drift also sells their own products in the shop in the museum at the famous battlefield. They employ an ingenious method of bulk printing large rolls of textile, which allows for several print runs over one length of material, giving individual prints time to dry.
