Relay for Life on track

Billed as the only 24-hour Relay for life in South Africa, this event offers the Estcourt community to be part of 6 400 communities and four million relayers world-wide to join in the fight against cancer

Save the dates 6 and 7 September.
This is when Estcourt hosts its sixth 24-hour Cansa Relay for Life. The Relay was officially launched at the first meeting held on Wednesday afternoon at Forderville Primary School.
Organiser Anil Sookraj outlined the changes for this year, which includes security and the size of the tents that teams occupy during the duration of the Relay.
He added that Estcourt’s Relay has shown good growth since its debut in 2009, with an astounding 55.89 percent growth in 2011.
Youth teams were warned not to smuggle drugs and alcohol into the school during the Relay.
“You will get caught, this is a drug and alcohol free Relay,” warned Mr Sookraj. The Estcourt Cancer Support Group members were tasked with locating donors who would sponsor gifts for the survivors, who are pampered and showered with love and gifts at the Relay. Residents and businesspeople who would like to contribute may contact Mr Sookraj at the school on 036 352 3720.
Music, entertainers and youth groups will provide entertainment for the Relayers. If you would like to enter a team, please do so soon.
Message from Mr Sookraj
“Billed as the only 24-hour Relay for life in South Africa, this event offers the Estcourt community to be part of 6 400 communities and four million relayers world-wide to join in the fight against cancer. Estcourt’s Relay was given an award for being the best in KwaZulu-Natal. Relay gives HOPE to cancer survivors, remembers those lost to cancer and celebrates those who have conquered cancer. The event also fights back by encouraging regular screening, new research, promoting healthy lifestyles, enlisting new volunteers and advocacy. This year’s Relay will take place on September 6 and 7, 2014.
Team captains are encouraged to register their teams early. Registration forms are available from Forderville Primary School. I relay for my mother who was lost through cancer, I relay for my relatives and friends who are fighting cancer and I have HOPE that those who have cancer will be cured. If you have not been touched by cancer….. thank God. I have therefore I know. My name is Anil Sookraj and I am a proud relayer. Dream Big, Relay Big and Hope Big.
The organisers are grateful to Al-Imdaad Foundation for sponsoring this life-changing event.”
