The tragic death of George Dobbie on June 17 has left a void within the community and the Dobbie family which cannot be replaced.

George leaves behind his wife Mary, three children and two grandchildren.

Best remembered for the role he played in Newcastle Crisis Centre and his Scottish brogue, George and Mary moved from central Scotland to South Africa in 1975 where they lovingly raised their family.

Throughout the years, George played an active role in the forming and running of the Newcastle Crisis Centre, alongside his wife.

“We were married for 47 years, and he was with me the whole time. He was the backbone of the centre,” explained Mary.

Describing George as a wonderful husband and loving father, Mary said some of her best memories of him involved his cheeky smile, singing and dancing.

“He loved to sing and dance.”

George’s daughter, Nicola Dobbie bid a heartfelt farewell to her father.

“Daddy, we will always love you, no matter what.”

Remembering George’s favourite words, Nicola concluded, “Together as a family we will stay united. United we will stand and divided we will fall.”

George’s funeral will take place on Saturday, June 21, at Newcastle Methodist Church from 11am.
