Taking a drive through Newcastle, journalists encountered flying debris, posing a constant threat to damaging their vehicles and possibly causing injury to themselves.
The sandstorms, which have been kicked up by the heavy winds, were likened to those experienced in middle-eastern countries.
The winds are slowing down slightly at the moment, but it is still believed to not be entirely safe to be outside at this time.
Reports of properties damaged due to uprooted trees, lamp posts and falling branches can be confirmed in all areas.
The fire crisis has started to fade away, but risks are still high.
Around the province, veld fires have ignited, and satellite imaging has picked up these fires, as confirmed by Weather Watch SA.
