Freedom of Entry parade in main street

The units marched up and down Murchison Street, much to the delight of those in attendance

Murchison Street was abuzz with activity this morning, as the Arms of Service held a ‘Freedom of Entry’ parade.

The Arms of Service in attendance comprised the South African Army, South African Navy, South African Military Health Service and South African Police Service. The regimental colours on parade were 5 South African Infantry Battalion (5SAI), 121 South African Infantry Battalion, Natal Carbineers, Durban Light Infantry, Natal Mounted Rifles and Umvoti Mounted Rifles.

The parade also included the KwaZulu-Natal Army Band, under the direction of Lt Shezi. The drum major was CPL Corniel.

The units marched up and down Murchison Street, much to the delight of Mayor Vincent Madlala, VIPs, honoured guests and spectators alike. Residents gathered to watch the special parade and listen to the mayor address the units.

A display was done by the Karate School, and then Hamilton entertained the crowd with their Marimba Band.

After the parade, the honoured guests gathered in the Town Hall to have a taste of some traditional cuisine. There was a wide variety of cultural dishes, such as breyani, ijeke, pancakes and cottage pie.
