AFRIFORUM is to continue its legal battle regarding regulations on minimum competency standards at Utrecht’s municipality. The eMadlangeni Municipality has opposed the application by AfriForum for a High Court order to compel the municipality to provide reasons for refusing the request of the civil rights organisation, for access to documents indicating compliance with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Standards.

André Homann, Chairman of the AfriForum branch in Utrecht, said that the Municipality assured AfriForum in a letter dated October 20, 2013, that all officials employed by the municipality do meet the minimum competency levels as required by the regulations, but refuse to provide proof for their claims.

Chris Fourie, Provincial Coordinator for AfriForum in KZN, said that the necessary affidavits were filed at the Pretoria North High Court.

A court date is awaited.
