Staff injured in factory explosion

On Monday Masonite’s Chief Executive Officer Hilton Loring confirmed that an accident had occurred at the Estcourt Mill during which eight employees were hurt

What has been described as an ‘explosion’ left eight Masonite Africa employees injured on Friday, June 6.
A staff member who did not want to be named said he heard something pop but was unaware of the extent of the damages or if there were any injuries at the time.
On Monday Masonite’s Chief Executive Officer Hilton Loring confirmed that an accident had occurred at the Estcourt Mill during which eight employees were hurt.
He said that three of the injured remain hospitalised while the five others had been treated for minor injuries and discharged.
“Masonite Africa takes the safety of our employees very seriously and we are doing everything possible to help the affected employees and their families.
The section of the mill where the incident occurred will remain closed while evaluations to its structural integrity are being completed,” he added.
Mr Loring sated that the impact on production in the relevant section is unknown at this stage.
