One killed in Madadeni shooting

A taxi association member was murdered in his vehicle on June 5.

An influential taxi association member was mercilessly gunned down in Madadeni on Thursday morning (June 5).
The deputy chairman of the Sizwe Taxi Owners’ Association, Sipho Mlotshwa was shot and killed in his vehicle while stopped at an intersection, in what residents believe to be a continuation of rampant taxi violence.

Eyewitnesses said a total of seven shots were fired from another vehicle, which sped away from the scene.

His death comes one day after a meeting between Sizwe and other taxi associations regarding routes, and is the latest in a series of shootings across the greater Newcastle area.

An official statement by the SAPS is expected at a later stage.
