“A country that cares for agriculture cares for its future.”
It is with this statement in mind that Vryheid Agricultural High School strives to educate learners not only with theoretical, but also practical agricultural knowledge.
Through a variety of programs the learners are equipped with skills that will one day serve them well as entrepreneurs, employees and even farmers on their own piece of land.
Under the leadership of Mr Anton van der Schyf and with the support of staff, the learners are taught how to make a success of various farming disciplines, including cattle, sheep and chicken farming.

While the handling of animals on the farm, like cattle, sheep and horses enjoy great success and is especially popular amongst the children, a lot of emphasis is also placed on production and financial records as well as budgeting.
Ensuring that the learners understand the importance of being a farmer that knows just as much of recordkeeping as he or she does of the animals and crops that they are producing, will contribute to developing well rounded, independent potential farmers that will help with their families’, community’s and country’s food security. With these practical times in mind and expanding the learners’ view on producing, planning and recordkeeping an idea was born…

Youth Show @ Vryheid Landbou: On August 2, Vryheid Agricultural High School will be hosting the first annual Youth Festival @ Landbou.
Since the conception of the idea, learners have been training and participating in their practical sessions with the festival in mind.
The staff and especially the learners are working diligently to prepare the animals and products, to showcase what they have done, to the Vryheid community.
Scholars from neighboring schools, businesses, emerging farmers, parents and anybody with an interest in our greater community are invited to come and take part.
Every practical group will display, on that day, what they have been up to and will be judged according to the products they deliver, as well as the portfolios that they have compiled for the duration of the practical periods.

With the community in mind, everything is being done to involve the public in as many ways as possible, thus making it possible for little children and adults alike to handle the cattle and sheep that have been trained for this specific purpose!
