Footballers destroy cemetery

Family members of those resting in peace in the cemetery are up in arms, saying that they will take the law into their own hands if nothing is done by the relevant authorities to control the problem of trespassers.

Young boys who were playing soccer on the Dundee cemetery grounds are allegedly to blame for destroying a number of tombstones and other property on the premises.

Patrick Ndlovu, Endumeni’s Assistant Manager for Sanitation, said, “Security should be provided in the future. There are children and others who use the premises for the wrong reasons. It is disrespectful to the families of the deceased, as they have paid money to honour their loved ones with tombstones, only to have them destroyed.”

Mr Ndlovu, together with Team Leader Mbangiseni Sibiya and Rajan Dubree, Assistant Manager for Waste, visited the site to inspect the damage and discuss options for the future.
The SAPS has been called in to investigate, and a report has been sent to Council.
