New members pledge commitment

The aim of the Trainee Inspector and the new committee is, among other constitutional duties, to ensure that any donation received by the SPCA from businesses or individual persons, is put to good use to benefit the animals in our care

The Estcourt SPCA has recently elected a vibrant new committee that is committed to taking the local SPCA forward.
In recent times this local organisation has been plagued with negative dealings and this has unfortunately led to the public viewing the SPCA in a less than favourable light.
The SPCA although linked to the National Council of SPCA’s, is fully autonomous, having its own constitution, financial affairs and non-profit organisation number.
This however means that we as a community are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the organisation.
Ultimately the welfare of the animals should be our main priority.
We are excited to welcome our new Trainee Inspector Nelson Mabaso, whom we hope will become a very visible and active member of our organisation. We kindly ask all Estcourt people to offer him your full support and co-operation.
The aim of the Trainee Inspector and the new committee is, among other constitutional duties, to ensure that any donation received by the SPCA from businesses or individual persons, is put to good use to benefit the animals in our care.
On a recent visit to the premises of the SPCA, the committee members wrote a list of various problems currently encountered there.
Unfortunately, the offices, fences and grounds are in a dreadful state of disrepair. We are in dire need of assistance from any member of the public in the form of electrical or plumbing expertise or funding to ensure that these issues are addressed.
The kennels themselves need to be rejuvenated with a coat of paint and as mentioned; the fencing is a particular concern.
We invite and encourage any members of the public to visit the SPCA and witness the disrepair for themselves and hopefully join us in our quest to revive this essential service.
A very grateful and heartfelt thanks to those businesses and individuals who have helped this organisation in the past.
Thanks must go to the shopping centres that have put up with us doing our “tin shaking” outside their premises, and to the many people that have put their spare change and more, into our tins and offered us encouragement and support. A special thank you to the new PicknPay for their fabulous support thus far.
During the July school holidays, the committee and their children will embark on a day of cleaning and painting at the SPCA.
The hours spent there will be put forward to their schools as community service hours, and we invite any other scholars interested in collecting service points or hours to contact either Christine on 084 588 2909 or Estelle on 082 336 3822.
