Local youth take part in Newcastle cultural festival

Children dressed like gods and demons alike to portray real stories of truth from the scriptures

The Ramakrishna Centre recently held their Northern Natal Children’s Cultural Festival in Newcastle. Ladysmith, Glencoe, Dundee, Estcourt and Newcastle centres participated in this grand festival.

The children and youth of Ladysmith excelled in their items, which included dances, short plays (sketches), songs and speeches. They performed in front of a capacity crowd of over 1000 people at the Richview Civic Hall in Newcastle. The children showcased their varied talents on stage and gave a brilliant round of performances, bursting forth with colour and pomp. The striking uniforms and brightly traditional dance outfits filled the stage with life and exuberance.

Children dressed like gods and demons alike to portray real stories of truth from the scriptures. The tiny tots and youth gave a melodious oration of song and hymn. The president and vice-president of the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa delivered strong messages on family values and the role householders need to play to secure a safe and sound community.

Three bus loads and many others from Ladysmith enjoyed a fulfilling and rewarding day’s experience. Each child present received a comprehensive gift and literature pack.
