Gang fight spills onto Kirkland Street
Seven men were observed fighting on Kirkland Street, armed with knives.
The infamous South African Numbers gangs have been implicated in a vicious fight which erupted on the streets of Newcastle.
Seven suspects have been arrested following a fight on Kirkland Street yesterday afternoon.
“It is believed police patrolling the area observed the suspects, armed with knives, engaged in a brawl,” said police spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.
He continued, saying police had arrived just in time to avoid further damage, or murder. “It is believed the suspects were fighting over prison numbers the 26’s and 28’s gangs use,” he concluded.
Two of the suspects sustained minor injuries. All between the ages of 26 and 36, the men are expected to appear in Court, pending a full investigation.
