Choir continues to shine

The choir obtained positions one and two in an African and Western prescribed Music respectively, which paved the way for UMCC on overall marks to be crowned the champions of the KZN Melting Pot Choral Music Festival 2014

The Umtshezi Methodist Church Choir (UMCC) has once again proven that choral music runs in their veins when they took part in the KwaZulu-Natal Melting Pot Choral Music Festival held in Durban at the City Hall on April 27.
The choir participated in the Standard Category competing with five other choirs from all corners of our beautiful province.
The choir obtained positions one and two in an African and Western prescribed Music respectively, which paved the way for UMCC on overall marks to be crowned the champions of the KZN Melting Pot Choral Music Festival 2014.
They were followed by Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital Choir in overall second place and the University of Zululand Choir in overall third place.
This achievement was a joyous moment for the choristers and the choir management.
The choir lost its conductor Mhlengi Mpisane in February 2014 and had to deal with the ordeal of looking for a new conductor to prepare for the competition.
Mduduzi Shezi of Pietermaritzburg was appointed to take the legacy and vision of the late Mhlengi Mpisane forward.
On behalf of the choir, management would love to convey our sincere gratitude to the principal, Governing Body and SMT of ML Primary School for allowing the choir use of the school as its rehearsal venue.
Thank you in particular to Mayor of Imbabazane Cllr PG Strydom for transport assistance to go to Durban for the competition.
Lastly our thanks goes to all who support us with food or cash donations.
People who are willing to join the choir or give donations can contact Sandile Dlamini on 071 313 5175 or 076 120 1315.
