Voting in Ladysmith

Most residents were happy to cast their vote and make sure they celebrated 20 years of democracy

Most of the voting stations in Ladysmith did not have problems yesterday, as residents came in their hundreds to vote.

However, voting at the Town Hall was chaotic at best, with literally hundreds of people voting where they had not registered to vote. Confusion reigned as registered voters at the station were initially made to stand in the same queue as those registered to vote at other poling stations. DA MP Mr Alf Lees expressed his concern at the lack of organisation at the Town Hall.

In other parts of town, voting went pretty smoothly and there were no reports of violence in our area. A large number of soldiers were seen voting at some poling stations in town.

Ladysmith Gazette photographers were sent out to capture the voting frenzy, with the Klipriver High School voting station having the largest queue by early morning. Most residents were happy to cast their vote and make sure they celebrated 20 years of democracy.
