Bumpy road of empty promises

Months of neglect and empty promises have seen this road deteriorate to a such a point that motorists drive on the pavement

In the quiet town of Mooi River, the Pennindale Road is frequented by a number of residents who access the residential area.
The road, according to one resident, is in an appalling state.
Months of neglect and empty promises have seen this road deteriorate to a such a point that motorists drive on the pavement. A resident from Pennindale, who spoke on condition of anonymity, says that he has written letters and met with the previous Municipal Manager in an effort to bring attention to the potholed, gravel road.
“He was full of empty promises and blamed the lack of maintenance on not being able to get the required material to repair the road.
I know this is a lie, as residents have been fed this excuse for years and it is simply unrealistic that materials such as the ones required to repair roads could be in such short supply, considering that roads are something that need constant maintenance,” said the resident.
As a temporary repair measure, the owners of a hardware store in Mooi River provide the resources and labour to fill up some of the gaping potholes at their own cost.
“Residents are having to bear the extremely high costs of damages caused to their vehicles due to the terrible condition of the Pennindale Road.
I write to the Estcourt News as a last resort in an attempt to show the public the lack of services provided by the local municipalities.
This is simply unacceptable and pathetic to say the least,” added the resident.
These concerns and several questions were sent to Mpofana Municipal Manager Max Moyo but no response was received at the time of going to print.
