This day is etched in history as one that united people across the country and gave a taste of freedom, hence April 27 each year is commemorated as Freedom Day.
It is a day that reminds some of their very first vote and reminds others that they are born in a country where democracy and freedom are celebrated.
This year marks 20 years of democracy in South African and numerous events have been planned nationally to mark this milestone.
