Safety comes first

The reflective tape on the heavy motor vehicles, which assures visibility was examined by traffic officers and if found to be in poor condition, the tape was replaced to minimum standards

To ensure that safety came first ahead of the Easter period, the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) Midway and 3M, a reflective materials company partnered for an operation on Wednesday.
Trucks that passed through the weighbridge from 9am to noon were inspected.
The reflective tape on the heavy motor vehicles, which assures visibility was examined by traffic officers and if found to be in poor condition, the tape was replaced to minimum standards.
Vusi Tshabangu from 3M explained why the company had embarked on this project aimed at road safety.
“Reflective tapes are required by law to be visible on all trucks and minibus taxis and we want to support the RTI to promote compliance.
We have carried out this project in Durban, Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg too.”
In addition to examining the trucks, the drivers were also tested for narcotics, utilising a test strip that the driver rubs inside his/her mouth a number of times.
