Dagga cops busted

48.15 KG'S of marijuana found on a sergeant and three constables of Nhlanhleni SAPS.

A sergeant and three constables of Nhlanhleni (Pomeroy) SAPS were found in possession of 48,15kg marijuana on the night of April 14.
Dundee police were alerted by members of the community about a police van transporting dagga from Nhlanhleni, heading to Dundee. Warrant Officer Beharie and Constable Dumakude waited for the van near the Dundee/Helpmekaar road.
When the van approached they followed and stopped it. They then searched the van and found the marijuana. The suspects were taken to the Dundee police station. It was later discovered that the sergeant was supposedly on leave at the time of the incident. It is understood that the police had earlier confiscated the dagga from a woman in the Pomeroy area. However, instead of booking it in with the police they allegedly drove to Dundee with the intention of selling the dagga.
The four police members appeared in the Dundee Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 14, and their case was remanded to April 24. The suspects remain in custody while police continue with the investigation.
