Man is harassed at home

"I don’t think this officer was from our area because I have never seen him or the vehicle before. He also refused to give me his name"

Johnny Gunpath from Sagittarius Avenue in Colita had an unwelcome visitor on Friday at lunchtime.
Mr Gunpath returned home at about 12.30pm and says that he was met by a police officer in civilian clothes whose brand new police vehicle was parked in his driveway.
“I don’t think this officer was from our area because I have never seen him or the vehicle before. He also refused to give me his name,” explained Mr Gunpath.
“I asked him what he wanted and he asked me why did I lock my gates? I replied that this is due to safety reasons because I have two young grandchildren and tools inside my premises,” he added.
At this point Mr Gunpath said he felt that he was being harassed and that he had no obligation to explain why he locked his gate.
“I told the officer that if he was willing to stand at my gate and guard it 24 hours a day, I would gladly leave it unlocked but until then I am free to lock my gate. He then left. I went to the Estcourt police station to report the incident. I think that it is unfair that innocent people are harassed at their homes for no reason,” concluded Mr Gunpath.
Police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela was contacted for comment about this alleged incident, but no response was given at the time of going to print.
