Fish head used to catch monster Cat Fish

On Wednesday afternoon, Joe van Wyk was fishing with two friends and couldn’t have imagined what he was about to reel in. They were at the Klip River and Joe decided to try a scaly fish’s head as bait.

That resulted in a catch of an 18kg Cat Fish! It put up a bit of a fight, but in the end Joe was triumphant and walked away with the ‘monster’ in his hands. He says he’s going to sell it, as he caught enough smaller fish to cook.

UPDATE:

Having spoken to several other fishermen, including an angling expert, the fisherman’s claim that the fish was 18kg has been placed in serious doubt. Experts say that, at best, it is an 8kg fish.
