Fashion designers top of the range

This year’s fashion theme - ‘Freedom to Rein’ - focuses on the 20 years of democracy in South Africa, as well as on looking at the fashion portrayed by the ‘Born Free Generation’.

Fashion Designers from Endumeni attended the ‘Inspiration and Designing Your Collection’ workshop, which ran for two days, conducted by the KwaZulu-Natal Fashion Council (KZNFC). The workshop was aimed at developing fashion designers’ necessary skills in the fashion sector.

It also prepares fashion designers, who are to compete in the annual horse-riding event known as the Dundee July, to produce quality work.
Around eight fashion designers from Endumeni attended the workshop, and were mentored and guided by Fezile Mdletshe of the KZNFC, who critiqued and advised designers on how to improve to make their designs more attractive.

This was the first phase of the programme, which continues until May, when designers will be given guidance in patterns. Final judging will be conducted by the mentor herself, Fezile Mdletshe, in June, prior to the Dundee July.

The final judgment also prepares designers for the fashion show on the day of the event. This year’s fashion theme – ‘Freedom to Rein’ – focuses on the 20 years of democracy in South Africa, as well as on looking at the fashion portrayed by the ‘Born Free Generation’. Similar workshops were also conducted in the Majuba and Uthukela Districts.
