Zuzile Mazibuko, a 27-year-old woman is thankful that she got a second chance at life when she was almost hit by a train a short distance from her house.

A woman escaped death when a train narrowly missed her as she crossed the railway line on Friday afternoon at Ndomba, a rural settlement adjoining Acaciavale.

Zuzile Mazibuko, a 27-year-old woman is thankful that she got a second chance at life when she was almost hit by a train a short distance from her house.

She was wearing headphones attached to her cellphone and listening to music as she walked home. This is why she did not hear the train rushing towards her.

Miraculously she spotted the locomotive just in time and managed to jump back. Zuzile fell and slammed her head onto the railway track.

“ I was about to cross the railway line when I saw the train. The next thing I know I am being woken by paramedics.”

Zuzile screams alerted neighbours who had summoned emergency services.  Sharaj Ambulance and EMRS paramedics responded.

Zuzile sustained head injuries and was taken to hospital. “This is not the first time someone got hurt crossing that railway line,” explained a resident who did not want to be named.

Zuzile Mazibuko is back at work after being discharged from hospital on Saturday.  “I am really grateful that I survived and cannot imagine what would have happened to my two young kids if I had being killed” explained the still traumatized Zuzile.
The path to Ndomba forces residents to cross the main line that links Johannesburg to Durban. School children risk their lives on a daily basis.
