Dump site festers on Link Road

Residents are dumping at this site in plain view of all and sundry.

Link Road through Lennoxton is the latest site for a dumping scourge.

While informal dumping sites are nothing new for Newcastle, certain residents have become so brazen as to dump building rubble and more in plain view of all and sundry.

This was the case on Tuesday morning. A resident with a wheelbarrow tipped over a wheelbarrow full of shattered tiles at the informal dump site, exclaiming he had been told to do so and asking if it was wrong. Upon hearing the reply of ‘yes’, he simply turned about face and left.

The dumping site, situated alongside a municipal skip, is a myriad of mouldering refuse, discarded boxes of wholesale store goods, rotting garden refuse and other rubble. Owing to the decay, an overwhelming stench permeates the area.

Although dumping carries with it a fine, the prevalence of informal ‘refuse disposal sites’ across Newcastle has increased in recent times, at times within walking distance of a skip. When and how this problem will be dealt with, may be addressed by the municipality in weeks to come.
