Among the many events that occurred in town this long weekend, was the Avant Garde Festival. This music festival, which was aimed at attracting the community at large, was held specifically in Vryheid as it is the birthplace of one of the Avant-garde Vintage Lounge founders.

The term Avant-garde refers to any cutting edge movement led by a small group of people to open new doors within their realm of interest. The Avant-garde Vintage Lounge(AGVL) movement seeks to put new spins on classic dance culture and come up with something truly innovative that represents all musical tastes. They identify and give platform to more sophistication than regular dance music, on the scale of Broken Beats, NuJazz and Electronica/Lounge.

Community members as well as visitors from as far as Johannesburg gathered at the Vryheid Polo Club on Saturday to enjoy good music and socialise.

With big names like Vinny Da Vinci from Metro FM in their line-up, the event was definitely any music lover’s dream come true.
