BE ALERT in the CBD and in supermarket parking areas. A Vryheid resident warned us this week that a current trick among thieves is to approach motorists who have just returned to and entered their cars. These crooks are very polite, and appear genuinely concerned for their victim’s well-being. They will tell the motorist very politely that they have a flat tyre. Some motorists immediately unlock their door and get out to have a look. Some cars, when one door is unlocked, unlock all the doors. It is then that the thieves strike. Quick as a flash they will grab what they can from the vehicle – handbags, wallets, cellphones, anything that’s available. Be aware – not everyone who appears to have your interests at heart is genuine.
