Sakhile to spread his passion for sport

He now has a vision to pass on his sport skills and passion to others in his home town.

Sakhile Madondo is a sports fanatic who obtained his Sport Management Diploma at the Tshwane University of Technology.

He developed his love for sport while in high school, when he participated in various sports which were offered at Dundee High. He mastered his skills in rugby and played for the first side.

His love for sport also expanded to athletics, tennis and soccer, but rugby to date ‘still remains in the centre of my heart’.

In 2006 the team raised funds and headed to Argentina for a three-week tournament. Twenty-three players were selected to represent the school, and Sakhile was among them.

He now has a vision to pass on his sport skills and passion to others in his home town.

His dream is to get a school or any municipal sports team to train. He said the youth in townships are only familiar with soccer and netball.

“I would like to change that; if only I could be given an opportunity to do so,” he explained.

He is the mastermind behind the non-profit organisation, Zonani-Q Project.

He and three others visit schools and train students in different sports.

However, there are still challenges as the organisation is still new and receives no funding. Everything they do is provided out of their own pockets, or they rely on donations.

While at university he assisted in organising sports tournaments and events. He worked with the university’s soccer team during tournaments, and also with the Blue Diamonds Club during his internship.
