Celebrating Aids Day with music festival

Joseph Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo was also in attendance, 'rocking out' and showing his support

The annual Ukhozi FM Nyus’ iVolume Concert was held on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Complex in Dry Road. People gathered in their hundreds to listen to their favorite artists perform live. The concert was also held as a ‘World Aids Day’ celebration event.

The event took place over the whole day and saw large crowds coming from far and wide to join in the fun and dancing. Performers ‘jammed’ on stage and everyone joined in with the help of huge screens that had been set up for the occasion.

Members of Emnambithi/Ladysmith Municipality, Mayor Vincent Madlala, uThukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko and others joined in the celebrations and were seen dancing on stage after addressing the more serious issue of the Aids epidemic.

Joseph Shabalala of Ladysmith Black Mambazo was also in attendance, ‘rocking out’ and showing his support.

Traffic was chaotic throughout the day and traffic jams continued late into the night. Some businesses closed their doors due to the crime rate which has escalated during the festival in past years. Police made themselves visible and could be seen patrolling the streets and responding to any incidents throughout the day and night.
