Police recover slain cop’s body in shallow grave

Constable Mlotshwa was shot and killed last Friday, November 15 when he left his residence in Mpola near Marianhill to meet an acquaintance at about 7pm

Seven suspected cop killers have been arrested and will be charged for the murder of Constable Thabo Mlotshwa, formerly from the Wembezi SAPS.

Constable Mlotshwa spent 2006/2007 at the Wembezi police station before being stationed at the National Intervention Unit in Pinetown.

He was shot and killed last Friday, November 15 when he left his residence in Mpola near Marianhill to meet an acquaintance at about 7pm.

“On his arrival at Mpola, he was approached by the suspects who overpowered him and fired fatal shots at him. The suspects took the policeman’s personal belongings; wallet, cellphones, bag and service pistol before his body was buried in a shallow grave at Mpola.

The suspects also took his vehicle,” explained police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane.

The abandoned vehicle was recovered by Chatsworth Cluster Crime Intelligence members in Lindelani on Tuesday, November 19.

“The Provincial Tracking Team followed information of the suspects and they proceeded to one of the suspect’s home in Mpola where they found two shovels, the deceased’s bag, firearm retainer, a blood stained curtain and muddied shoes.

The members seized the items and proceeded to a house where one of the suspects was hiding. When questioned about the incident he confessed to his involvement in the killing of constable,” said Captain Zwane. The officer’s body was found in the shallow grave and four suspects were arrested.

Police made another breakthrough on Saturday, November 23 when they arrested three more suspects aged between 20 and 21-years-old.
