ANC Women’s League take a stand against crime

"Our children and elders are being raped and killed on a regular basis"

Women of the ANC Women's League took to the streets in a protest against the crime, rape and drug abuse which is said to be spreading around Vryheid on Thursday, November 21.

The protest which was held in front of the police station in Landrost Street, was supported by women both young and old.

“Our children and elders are being raped and killed on a regular basis yet nothing is being done to protect them. We won't stop protesting until the police do something about our complaints!” said a woman who was among the protestors.

According to Cllr Dudu Mazibuko, who was among the women protesting, the crime rate in Bhekuzulu seems to be on the rise.

” A few weeks ago, an old woman and a school teacher were raped in separate incidents. Then last week two young men were brutally murdered on Friday evening. We as the women of the ANCWL have decided to come together and take a stand against this crime that is making many community members live in fear,”said Mazibuko.
