Former AbaQulusi Administrator, Mandla Nkosi passes away

"The news of Mr Nkosi's passing is very sad indeed... We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, to CoGTA and his community at large."

Family and friends at a birthday celebration were left reeling in shock yesterday, when former AbaQulusi Municipality Administrator, Mandla Nkosi collapsed while delivering a humorous recollection of days gone by.

One of his relatives, Bheki Nkosi confirmed the sad news, adding the family needed ‘time to process what has just happened’.

“He just fell down while he was delivering a speech about his early childhood days, with the cousin whose birthday we were attending. Suddenly, he just fell down. Someone tried to give him CPR and we rushed him to the Vryheid Private Hospital, where he was sadly declared deceased,” he explained.

He went on to say the family had suffered a great loss, calling Nkosi a brilliant, motivating and hard-working man. News of Nkosi’s passing has rippled outwards across Northern KZN all the way through to Endumeni Municipality (Dundee), where he was also previously deployed as Administrator.

Endumeni Mayor, Sduduzo Mdluli expressed great sadness at receiving news of Nkosi’s passing: “The news of Mr Nkosi’s passing is very sad indeed. As Endumeni Municipality, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, to CoGTA [Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs] and to his community at large. He was one of the best in his field of work.”

Former AbaQulusi Mayor, Jerry Sibiya also expressed his condolences to Nkosi’s family, saying he had been such a pleasure to work with.

“He was strong, encouraging and had a firm hand when it came to getting things done,” said Sibiya.
