Undeterred by, “the lack of decent sporting facilities in his area,” Lakeside resident, Miracle Louw, arranged a Youth Day event promoting sport as an alternative to substance abuse, which is rife in the area.

The event included a fun run/walk and soccer matches, for participants of all ages, at Lakeside Primary School.

“I hosted this event to encourage the youth to participate in sport activities, and refrain from taking drugs,” said Mr Louw. “I also want to use this opportunity to appeal to the councillors of AbaQulusi municipality to look into the possibility of developing proper public sports facilities for the sake of our youth.”

Mr Louw wished to thank the principal of Lakeside Primary School, Mr Kirsten, for the use of the school grounds, friends and family for helping to organise the event, and the Lakeside community for its support.

“Thank you, guys. Without you, this event would not have been such a big success,” said Mr Louw.

He further indicated that he is already planning a Women’s Day event for Lakeside residents to enjoy.
