Well done to our Vryheid cyclists Thabani Xaba, Sheppard Nzenza, Philip Botha en Piet Swart who took on the 100km Highlands Clarens race over the long weekend. Unlike other races, the route was aimed at making the 100km very do-able for most cyclists. The race difficulty lied in the distance, not the terrain. And then there was a strong headwind on the last 50km which also made the 100km feel extra long, testing endurance. There were also a few long climbs to overcome, but as always, the views from the top in the beautiful Clarens area were breathtaking.
On Heritage day, our de Villiers cycling family took on the gruelling off-road trails at the Belvedere Game Ranch in the heart of the Northern KZN bushveld. The most beautiful naturally hand-crafted mountain bike trails you’ll ever get to experience! Mariska said “We enjoyed the flowy singletracks and rocky jeeptracks, the challenging technical bull runs with the not so easy chicken runs.”
We enjoyed the spectacular views of this 1400 hectares farm, stocked with a variety of game including Buffalo, Giraffe, Kudu, Nyala, Impala, Warthog, Bushbuck, Zebra, Bluewildebeest, Red- and Grey Duiker and other small game species.
It is a paradise for bird lovers and hosts a magnificent variety of tree species.
