What do parkrun marshals do?

Sthembayona Zwane finished first in an excellent time of 17:49

Parkrun marshals are an integral part of the event. Each run has its own requirements, depending on the complexity of the course, the number of participants and any location-specific issues. The main tasks performed by marshals are guiding, interacting and encouraging the participants around the course, warning them of any obstacles or hazards, alerting the run director of any incidents, as well as ensuring that other park-users are aware of the event. A marshal should stay in position until the tail walker passes them for the last time.
A shout-out this week goes to the six runners who achieved personal best times: Jaco, Simonè, Ignis, Robyn, Ruan and Leandra. Welcome to the seven first-timers: Sizwe, Anton, Xolisile, Amanda, Nontobeko, Elaine and Gert. Here’s wishing you many more happy parkruns!
