Estcourt Heroes walk away with R8000 winners’ prize

These off-season games are also used by teams to prepare for the new season

Estcourt Heroes were the winners of the Future Stars Top Eight Tournament held at the Kandahar Avenue sports ground last Sunday (June 23). They won R8000 for their efforts.

The team showed resilience and courage as they managed to cling onto a narrow 1-0 win against Ladysmith giants, Junior Eleven FC, in the final.

Football lovers enjoyed the games, which started in the morning and continued into the afternoon. The final was played later in the day.

Eight teams competed in the tournament, namely Estcourt Heroes, Junior Eleven, Number Number, BK Masters, Cape Town City, Steadville United, Running Water, and Happy Hearts.

Organiser Mthandeni Kubheka said they were very happy to get such a positive response from the teams and fans, even though they had announced the tournament in a short space of time. “This tournament will help the local team, Junior Eleven, to prepare for the next season, since we know they will be playing in the ABC Motsepe League. We are very thankful to the teams that participated; some coming from neighbouring towns such as Estcourt, Bergville, Mooi River, Dundee and Newcastle,” said Kubheka.
