Piet Retief narrowly walks away on top

The players were humbled by the positive feedback from the supporters

The weekend saw an extremely entertaining spectacle of rugby. The day kicked off with the second team, who were a little bit disjointed but provided a fun, running game. They were unfortunately unable to pull it through, though, losing 12-45 to Piet Retief. The first team, however, were a completely different kettle of fish, with some of the best game-play seen in a long time. Piet Retief started off strong and led at the half-time break, 10-27. In the second half, Vryheid mounted a massive comeback and ran in numerous tries to tie up the game with two minutes left. Unfortunately, Vryheid was caught off guard by the Piet Retief fly-half, who snuck in a try at the death of the game, leaving the final score at 27-32. If Vryheid had capitalised on their opportunities and slotted all their conversions, they would have won comfortably. Vryheid Rugby Club would like to thank the community for their great support. The players were humbled by the positive feedback from the supporters. With two weeks off, the Maroon Machine has some time to fix errors and dominate the league going forward.
