Awards given to local runners

The Vryheid Athletic Club hosted their annual prize-giving on Saturday; it was an event with a Rugby World Cup theme as guests had to dress up according to the various flags of the participating countries.
The tables were designed by different hostesses and there was no end to their creativity. Even though it was a fun, yet glamorous event, the sadness was felt by all when the newly elected chairperson, Barbara Dicks, paid tribute to Richard Scheepers who was tragically killed in a car crash in July. Richard was the serving chairperson at the time of the accident.

Clown of the year – Thandi Khumalo;
Laziest runner – Melissa Scheepers;
Female Trail Athlete – Colette Terblanché;
Male Trail Athlete – Sakkie Spannenberg;
Ladies’ supporter – Hein Potgieter;
Midnight runner – Hein Potgieter;
Club Supporter – Bongiwe Zulu;
Most Active Runner – Amanda Vergottini;
Comrades Surprise – Mcebeseni Msezane;
Vasbyter – Melissa Scheepers;
Nienaber Trophy – Simphiwe Buthelezi;
Improved Female – Andrea de Beer;
Improved Male – Vlam de Beer;
Novice – Andrea and Vlam de Beer;
Female Grandmaster – Cathy de Beer;
Male Grandmaster – Alfred Mpanza;
Female Master – Paula Small;
Male Master – Mandla Mnisi;
Female Veteran – Tholiwe Hlope;
Male Veteran – Simphiwe Buthelezi;
Female Athlete of the year – Jeanine Theron;
Male Athlete of the year – Mandla Mnisi;
Chairman Award – Johann Coetzee.
